Haast - Makarora-Wanaka
The morning dawned very cool and quite windy, in our face too. When Rex came along in the van we
decided to draft on it to keep warm and make a good pace to the gates of the Haast. It is 45kms
riding before you hit the actual climb. After a soup and rest stop we headed up. Neville and I were
challenged and needed to do a few zig zags to rest our legs as we went. Rex and Dave biked on their
singles and we were soon at the top after having a hard climb of only about 3 kms amongst the total
distance.
We had a photo shoot on top and then whistled down to Makarora.
Lunch at Makarora and then along the lakes to Wanaka where we hit town after a few good climbs on
the way about 5.45pm.
Travelled 141km max, 79km Average Speed 25.4 9.20am to 5.45pm
Nice accommodation overlooking the lake.
