Bhanu Choudhrie is the founder of C&C Alpha Group, a private equity firm with a heavy stake in emerging markets. He started his career as a chartered accountant and then co-founded Financial Management Service in 1984. Within six years, the firm had become one of India’s most extensive financial management services. Alpha Aviation Group was founded in January 2001 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Alpha Holding.

Since its inception, the company has been the first civilian charter operator in India and is involved with aircraft leasing and management services. Bhanu Choudhrie is also an active philanthropist and has founded the Choudhrie Foundation, which seeks to help the underprivileged sections of society through charity.

Mr. Choudhrie’s second passion is journalism, and in 1993 he became a co-owner of The Asian Age, a Delhi-based English newspaper. He also holds stakes in the Indian Property Register, British Wireless International, and Arindam Realty Limited. Alpha Aviation Group is India’s first civilian charter operator, with a fleet of 22 aircraft.

Bhanu Choudhrie began his career with PwC before founding Financial Management Service in 1984 with partner Sanjiv Kapoor. Within six years, FMS had become one of the most influential financial service firms in India, specializing in corporate finance. Notable clients included Tata Group and the Jindals.

Under Choudhrie’s leadership, FMS turned the initial capital of Rs.10 lakhs into an Rs.27-crore firm in just a decade. He then sold FMS for Rs.540 crores to United Western Group in 1994, a leading real estate company listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Choudhrie served on several Government Committees, including the Finance Ministry’s Working Group on Corporate Governance and Committee on Public Sector Companies. He is also a member of The Confederation of Indian Industry, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Nasscom, and FICCI Academy.

Bhanu Choudhrie also co-founded The Asian Age and Siddharth Varadarajan and is also on the editorial board at Business World. He is also on the Advisory Board for Future Capital Private Equity and is a member of its International Advisory Boards in London and Sydney. Choudhrie is an active supporter of several charitable causes, including The Vedanta Society, which supports higher education through sponsorship initiatives at Cornell University, Harvard University, and Princeton University.
